2006/02/14
Greetings from Runestone Internet and Runestone Telephone Association!
We have recently been upgrading the Runestone Internet Service to increase both
reliability and available bandwidth.
The next step in this process will require that some of our customers make a
change to their computer or perhaps their router if one is used.
WHAT IS THE CHANGE?
We are changing the two IP addresses that you use for Internet DNS servers.
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED?
We have been using the new DNS server addresses when setting up new customers
and when supporting existing customers for several months now.
Some customers are already configured with the new DNS settings but should
verify to make sure.
For most Dial-up customers the change will occur automatically.
EXCEPTION: If you use an old version of Windows (95, 98, ME) the change may not
be automatic.
Most pre-existing High Speed DSL customers will have to make a change.
Business customers who operate their own e-mail servers will probably need to
update DNS settings on those servers.
WHEN DO I NEED TO MAKE THIS CHANGE?
As soon as reasonably possible.
We will monitor the usage of the old DNS server addresses.
When usage drops to a minimum we will turn off the old DNS servers.
We would like to complete this change by March 30, 2006 but will work with our
customers to avoid service interruptions.
HOW DO I MAKE THIS CHANGE?
Please refer to the following instructions on our web site:

WHAT IF I NEED THE CHANGE AND DON'T MAKE IT?
Your Internet service will probably stop working.
You will be able to connect to Runestone but not be able to get around the
Internet.
Watch your email for additional Runestone Internet Bulletins explaining other
upcoming changes to your Internet service!
A list of all Runestone Internet Bulletins can be found here:

We look forward to making your Internet experience safer and more enjoyable!
